Essential Duas and Supplications for Umrah Pilgrims
Umrah is a beautiful spiritual journey and an opportunity to remember Allah, seek forgiveness, and make sincere supplications. There is no requirement to recite a specific dua for every step of Umrah. Pilgrims may make personal duas and remember Allah throughout the journey.
Below are some important supplications that pilgrims may find useful during Umrah.
1. Talbiyah
After making the intention for Umrah and entering Ihram, pilgrims recite the Talbiyah:
Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayka La Shareeka Laka Labbayk. Innal-Hamda wan-Ni'mata Laka wal-Mulk, La Shareeka Lak.
Meaning:
“Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Surely all praise, blessings, and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.”
Pilgrims continue reciting the Talbiyah according to the established practice until the appropriate point during the Umrah.
2. Dua for Forgiveness
One of the most important things a pilgrim can ask Allah for is forgiveness.
Astaghfirullaha Rabbi min kulli dhanbin wa atoobu ilayh.
Meaning:
“I seek forgiveness from Allah, my Lord, for every sin, and I repent to Him.”
Pilgrims may also ask Allah sincerely for forgiveness in their own words.
3. Dua for Goodness in This World and the Hereafter
A well-known Quranic supplication is:
Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina 'adhaban-nar.
Meaning:
“Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”
4. Dua During Tawaf
During Tawaf, pilgrims can make personal duas, recite Quran, perform Dhikr, and send blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
There is no requirement to use a particular dua for each of the seven rounds.
Pilgrims should make sincere supplications according to their needs, asking Allah for forgiveness, mercy, guidance, health, peace, and blessings.
5. Dua Between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone
A commonly recited supplication between the Rukn al-Yamani and the Black Stone is:
Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina 'adhaban-nar.
Meaning:
“Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”
6. Dua at Safa and Marwah
When beginning Sa'i, pilgrims remember Allah and make supplications at Safa and Marwah.
One may recite:
La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la shareeka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamd, wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadeer.
Meaning:
“There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partner. To Him belongs the kingdom and to Him belongs all praise, and He has power over everything.”
Pilgrims may then make their personal duas.
7. Personal Duas During Umrah
Pilgrims are encouraged to make sincere personal supplications throughout their journey.
You may ask Allah for:
- Forgiveness of sins
- Guidance and righteousness
- Good health
- Peace and happiness
- Blessings for your family
- Success in your lawful affairs
- Protection from difficulties
- Mercy and acceptance
- Jannah and protection from Hellfire
You can make these duas in Arabic or in your own language.
8. Dua for Family and Loved Ones
Umrah is also a wonderful opportunity to remember your parents, family, friends, and loved ones in your prayers.
Ask Allah to bless them, protect them, forgive them, and grant them goodness in this life and the Hereafter.
Important Reminder
There is no need to memorize a separate dua for every round of Tawaf or Sa'i. Avoid believing that a specific dua is compulsory for each round unless there is authentic evidence for it.
The purpose of Umrah is sincere worship and remembrance of Allah. Make your duas with humility, sincerity, and full trust in Allah.
Conclusion
Duas are an important part of the spiritual experience of Umrah. Along with the established supplications, pilgrims should speak to Allah sincerely and ask for whatever is good for themselves, their families, and the wider Muslim community.
May Allah accept our worship, forgive our sins, answer our duas, and grant every pilgrim a safe and blessed Umrah. Ameen.
